Shaybali specializes in unique, handcrafted items for your home and wardrobe. We travel the world to bring you rare, one of a kind items that reflect a tropical vibe and beautiful artistry. We support local artisans and craftspeople who bring us these incredible finds! Shaybali began in 2008 after numerous trips to the lush, beautiful island of Bali, Indonesia – where the majority of the world’s batik fabrics are made. It was there that the artistry and craftsmanship of the Balinese people inspired the owner, Shay Steinmann, to start a small, specialty batik clothing business called Shaybali. She merged these beautiful, rare colorful batik fabrics into modern, figure-flattering clothes to create the Shaybali style. Rich tropical colors and unique batik patterns are mixed and matched into “artistic” items that are never out of style! Shaybali clothing and bedding has been featured nationwide in specialty stores, major mail order and on-line catalogs. Shaybali’s batik clothing was featured in the movie ‘Transformers – Age of Extinction” as well as on the Today Show. And now we are expanding from just clothing and offering beautiful tropical-inspired artwork created by Shay as well as home decor items. All evoking the lush, tropical feel of some of the world’s most beautiful destinations like Bali and Costa Rica. Founder & Artist
Meet Shay
Shaybali founder, Shay Steinmann, found her creative side as an art major at the University of Florida. She began her fashion career as a multi line apparel sales rep in northern California. Her brightly colored, tropical themed showrooms and booths in the San Francisco, Portland & Seattle markets attracted hundreds of stores seeking novelty, one of a kind items. Her biggest sellers were hand made batiks from Bali, Indonesia which featured vibrant colors and beautiful textures and patterns.
Numerous trips to the lush, tropical island of Bali gave Shay the background and knowledge to start her own importing business. After moving to Florida in 2008, Shay took her love of all things Balinese and turned it into a lucrative importing business selling primarily to mail order and online catalogs. To date, Shaybali apparel and bedding has graced the covers or web page lead ins for many major catalogs such as Soft Surroundings, Novica, Norm Thompson, Pyramid Collection, Acacia, Ulla Popken and Casual Living and been seen in major motion pictures and television shows.
Shay now resides in the vibrant city of St. Petersburg, Florida. She is the mother of two sons, 24 and 27 and a grandmother to twin one year old boys. Besides designing apparel; Shay has continued making art throughout her life. Vibrant, colorful paintings and ceramics reflect her love for nature and the tropical flora and fauna of Florida, Bali and Costa Rica. Travel to these tropical destinations is her inspiration! Shay is an avid gardener and the tropical plants in her garden are subjects in much of her art. She is also a nationally ranked competitive masters swimmer with numerous top ten swims in the nation. Water is her element and you can find that in much of her art as well. Her sense of style and color are evident throughout her life and she is happy to share that with you!
